Microsoft launches £95 computers for the charity sector 4

IT | Vibeka Mair | 17 May 2011

Microsoft will offer its refurbished computers to charities for as little as £95 as part of its commitment to Race Online 2012, a government campaign to get millions of people who have never been online connected to the web by the end of 2012.

The Get Online @ Home Windows 7 package includes a rich software suite, flat screen, mouse and keyboard and starts at £95 for people claiming certain government benefits and for registered charities.

BT has also brought out a new service for the charity sector as part of its involvement in Race Online 2012. It has launched a free community web kit to help charities build websites.

Elsewhere, Race Online 2012 has enlisted local digital champions to volunteer to train people in their community. Many charities, including Age UK, Beatbullying and the Scouts, have signed up to support local digital champions. To get involved click here.

The Race Online 2012 has also released a report showing how technology can benefit the charity sector.

Response to [Jo Franks]

Our charity which gives grants to young vegetarians in financial need are often asked by students, school children for a grant for a computer. They are not necessarily on benefit. Would we be able to apply to you for a computer for them rather than us give them a grant to buy themselves.
