More Race for Life participants raise money online 2

IT | Gareth Jones | 7 Mar 2011

Cancer Research UK (CRUK) has seen a 30 per cent increase in Race for Life participants fundraising online after it integrated JustGiving functionality into the event’s website.

The number of individuals setting up online fundraising pages since the event opened for entries on 17 January was up compared to the same period in 2010 after CRUK enabled women registering on the Race for Life website to easily create a JustGiving page.

The charity utilised the newly-available JustGiving API (application programming interface), which allows charities to adapt JustGiving’s services for their own specific needs and brand.

As a result it was able to integrate JustGiving’s page creation process into the Race for Life website.

Online fundraisers raise more

Jo Warner, digital senior manager at CRUK, said: “We know that the Race for Life participants who choose to fundraise online raise on average 50 per cent more than offline fundraisers.

“As a result, it has been a high priority for us to make it easier and more tempting than ever before for women to start fundraising online for Race for Life 2011.”

Anne-Marie Huby, MD of JustGiving, added: “Opening up the JustGiving platform is a pivotal moment for JustGiving.

“It means that charities and their agency partners can now integrate our tools seamlessly with their own sites and take advantage of our continued investment in technology and innovation at no extra cost and with no upfront investment.”

Hi Charles, thank you for your questions.

Cancer Research UK works with JustGiving because we have sophisticated technology that other suppliers are simply unable to provide. This is a result of the millions of pounds we’ve invested in technology over the years.

JustGiving’s corporate structure is entirely straightforward. Justgiving is owned by Giving Limited, a UK company. About 65% of the shares in Giving Limited are owned by an individual who holds all his shareholdings through a Danish company. Neither France, where he lives, nor Denmark are exactly known as tax havens.

We proudly pay corporation tax, over £2.1m to date.

You seem very interested in these issues. Why don’t you get in touch and come and visit us personally?

wouldn't it be better for CRUK to use Virgin Money Giving? They take a lower fee than Just Giving and also don't hide their company ownership offshore in a tax haven...
