Battle to overturn Apple's charity donation ban gathers momentum 1

A petition calling on Steve Jobs to end Apple’s ban on charity donation apps for the iPhone has gained nearly 8,000 signatories.

Created by US-based campaigning petition site Care2, the campaign says that while it understands that Apple does not want to be responsible for ensuring funds reach their destination, “there are technical and logistical solutions to this dilemma”.

Apple has declined to comment on the issue despite sustained negative publicity over the past year, but it is believed that the firm doesn’t wish to take on the administration costs involved with verifying and vetting transactions.

The problem was first raised back in February by John Carnell of anti-bullying charity Bullying UK.

His app was rejected as it didn’t provide “sufficient amounts of content to appeal to a broad audience”.
