Oxfam has created a free app for Nokia phones which allows supporters to donate to and track the progress of five of its programmes around the world.
Using Oxfam Donate, users can learn about the work Oxfam is doing in the area, view progress reports, track fundraising levels in real-time and donate directly to the project.
The five programmes included in the app can be changed to incorporate emergency appeals or replace those which have reached their fundraising target.
Available for 12 of Nokia’s touch-enabled smart phones, users can donate either £5, £10 or £20 via PayPal or SMS.
The first Oxfam Donate projects are:
Cathy Ferrier, Oxfam’s fundraising director, said: “Constant innovation is vital to keep the public engaged with our work and Oxfam is always looking for ways to make donating as easy and accessible as possible for our supporters.
“The beauty of the Oxfam Donate app is not only the speed with which the public will be able to donate when a disaster strikes, but that users can learn more about the programmes they are supporting and see the difference their money is making in real time.”
