Disabled children’s charity Whizz-Kidz is the latest to get involved in microvolunteering, becoming the fourth charity partner of ‘help engine’ Cofacio.
The charity will soon join Carousel, Action Against Hunger and Conflict & Change as a beneficiary of the site, which matches people looking for help or information on any topic with those willing to volunteer it.
The site states that popular help topics include travel, sports, music, education and jobs, along with hobbies such as fishing, gardening, reading, walking and cooking.
Providing assistance allows users to accrue ‘fund points’, which are then converted into donations for the partner charities.
Fenella Bain, corporate partnerships fundraiser at Whizz-Kidz, said: “Whizz-Kidz uses social media a lot to engage with supporters, corporate partner employees, and fundraisers - but this is a brand new area for us, and one that we’re keen to see grow.
“We hope that that by members of the Cofacio community choosing to support us, we can begin to nurture a loyalty and a conversation regards the work of the charity.
“The extra kick for us is that our young people – many of whom are of the generation most in tune with the web and its spaces – can get involved too in answering questions. This is incredibly empowering, and turns ‘beneficiaries’ into valuable experts in their own right.”
