Sport Relief organisers reveal IT plans 0

Comic Relief has announced the technology partners for this year's Sport Relief fundraising campaign.

The charity will continue to use a Java-based hosting platform from cloud computing specialists Carrenza, allowing it to process hundreds of thousands of donations, via web and callcentres, in just a few hours.

This will be backed by “a stretched Oracle Real Application Clusters environment that runs active/active across 2 data-centres”.

Its two websites, www.sportrelief.com and www.comcrelief.com are in place and were designed using open source CMS Drupal.

Both use VMware vSphere 4 for virtualisation and sit on HP C-class blade centres (BL680 and BL460 blades) with 400-series virtual storage area networks from 3PAR providing flexible storage.

Cisco 6500-series networking and Zeus traffic management software will provide security, switching and smooth traffic management at the front whilst PayPal and RBS WorldPay will ensure secure payment processing at the back.
