Everything Everywhere has today been announced as a founding partner of Go On UK, the digital inclusion charity launched by Martha Lane Fox earlier this year.
The communications provider which operates the Orange and T-Mobile networks will run a number of programmes in its stores and in communities to inspire people to get online. Further details of initiatives will be announced later this year.
Martha Lane Fox described the company as “vital to the work we’re doing.”
She added: “Mobile internet has the ability to help revolutionise how SMEs grow and can transform the way charities deliver their frontline services.”
Olaf Swantee, chief executive of Everything Everywhere, who is also on the board of Go On UK said: “With more than 20 million people in the UK rarely or never using the internet, it’s clear more needs to be done to ensure people have access to a good connection and understand the value it can bring to their lives.”
Go On UK was launched in April to “pick up the baton from Race Online 2012” but with a broader remit.
The founding partners who were announced at the time were Age UK, BBC, Big Lottery Fund, E.On, Lloydes Banking Group, Post Office Ltd, and Talk Talk. Lane Fox is chairing the new organisation, while Tom Wright from Age UK and Peter Wanless from BIG are sitting on the board which is due to announce its 18-month plan in September.
