Samsung has launched a Hope Relay mobile app to raise money for three charities including Kids Company, and London 2012’s legacy programme International Inspiration.
A third charity to benefit will be decided by the International Olympic Committee.
The app, which helps users track their runs, walks or cycles, is free to download on Android, Apple and Samsung, and Samsung will donate £1 to charity for each mile completed.
Camila Batmanghelidjh said: “I would describe this donation as an absolute gift.”
It is part of Samsung’s activity as an Olympic partner and was launched by Jamie Oliver and cyclist Victoria Pendleton on Monday. They unveiled a ‘Wall of Hope’ which was filled with hundreds of pairs of trainers members of the public could use to complete a mile on the specially laid track.
Watch the video of the launch below:
Once users have downloaded the app they can create their own avatar, which will appear on the side of the Samsung Olympic van following the Olympic torch relay around the country. They can create their own video of their completed runs which can be shared on Facebook.
Watch David Beckham introducing the app:
The app will also be rolled out to up to 20 other countries including France, Italy and Hong Kong where Samsung will partner relevant charities in those countries.
