According to the latest Gorkana Charity Barometer, Unicef was the most talked-about charity in January 2012, and the only charity to appear in the top five of both the mainstream media and social media charts.
The Barometer analysed 45,913 pieces of mainstream coverage and 442,560 social media mentions of 76 charities.
Unicef came top in both the mainstream and social media charts, earning it top spot overall.
In the mainstream media chart it jumped from 19th position in December to 1st in January as a result of coverage of its president, Lord Ashdown, speaking out against the government’s planned benefit cap.
A performance by Selena Gomez at the charity’s annual concert resulting in a flurry of tweets was the reason given for it holding onto the number one position in the social media table.
The British Heart Foundation leapt from 17 to 8 in the social media table as a result of its recent Vinny Jones Hands-Only CPR campaign.
