JRR Tolkien might have summoned the Riders of Rohan, or set Gandalf and the hobbits to gather the fellowship once again, but now the charity set up in his name has turned to the courts of law to do battle for its lost millions.

Tracey Reddings, chief executive of Charities Aid Foundation's Financial Services arm, is to leave in April after ten years, in the wake of a wholesale restructure of the organisation.
