Sustainability

The World Commission on Environment and Development defines sustainability as: “Living in such a way that we can meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
Sustainability in a voluntary sector context means two things.  Firstly, organisations must take responsibility for minimising their impacts on the environment, and secondly, organizations should ensure they will be around to continue their work in the years to come.
The integration of sustainability into a charity’s overall strategic can be hugely beneficial to its operation, by improving accountability and efficiency, income and reputation.
