NCVO chief executive Stuart Etherington is planning to recommend to his organisation’s audit committee that the expenses of all senior management and trustees be published online.
In a response to a blog on Charity Finance this morning by IT consultant John Tate, Etherington said that his average annual expenses totalled £11,000 including all hospitality and overseas travel.
“They are approved by my chair and examined annually by my treasurer,” he wrote.
He also said he intended to recommend the online publication of all senior manager and trustees’ expenses “given the need for transparency”.
“This is a matter for the governance of NCVO to consider but I favour it,” he said.
Charity Finance’s newest blogger John Tate is convinced that IT will drive the tranpsarency agency and has been pressing home the need for greater openness by the sector’s leaders in his blogs all this week.
Charity Finance has asked the chief executives of NCVO, Acevo, Institute of Fundraising and NAVCA to disclose their expense claims for the last two years.
The only one to respond so far is Acevo. A spokeswoman for the chief executives’ body said: “Stephen Bubb is on sick leave at the moment recovering from an operation. I’m afraid I won’t be able to get hold of him this week.”
