The government has highlighted popular praise for youth volunteering charity v, the day after it cut nearly £15m in statutory funding from the organisation.
The Cabinet Office featured v in its government response to comments from the public on social action, saying a number of comments had “highlighted the positive work of the youth volunteering organisation v”.
The day before this, the Office for Civil Society had cut v’s funding by £6.95m, while the Department of Education scrapped vschools, slashing a further £8m from v's budget.
v was the only charity featured in the response on social action, which was one of 31 topic areas in the government's Programme for Government consultation.
The consultation overall received more than 9,500 public comments.
The government is currently considering v’s role and will make an annoucement in the spending review this autumn.
Minister for the Cabinet Office Sir Francis Maude has voiced concerns about v's effectiveness in the past.
