David Cameron has named four areas in the UK which will set off the Tories' Big Society agenda of community action.
Liverpool, Sutton, Windsor and Maidenhead and Eden Valley in Cumbria, will be given community organisers and will have access to civil servants from the Communities and Local Government to help them break down barriers, such as bureaucracy.
Cameron told an audience in at the Big Society official launch that community groups from each of the areas had approached the government for help with plans such as running their own pubs, or building affordable housing.
He urged other areas to get in touch.
“Come forward if you want to improve your local area,” said Cameron, “and we will try and give you the tools.”
