OTS launches consultation on making it easier for charities to sell land

The Office of the Third Sector has launched a consultation on relaxing the rules around the selling or disposal of charity land.

Currently, the Charities Act 2003 states that if a charity wants to sell or dispose of land, it must get a written report from a professional adviser who is a “qualified surveyor”.

However, the 2005 Better Regulation Task Force Report has recommended relaxing the rules, to include experienced Fellows of the National Association of Estate Agents.

The move, according to the report, will increase trustees’ choice about who they may consult, and make it easier and often less expensive to get the relevant information needed.

The consultation ends on 7 June 2010.
