NCVO curry clubs to foster future sector leaders 1

Governance | Gareth Jones | 8 Mar 2010

NCVO is attempting to seek out the sector’s future leaders by holding a series of ‘curry club’ meetings across England’s nine government regions.

The informal meetings will be held in local curry houses, with participants taking part in informal debates on the sector.

The findings from the events will then be fed into a new commission on the future of leadership in civil society via short YouTube clips uploaded the next day.

The commission will be made up of 20 ‘emerging leaders’ and is expected to publish its findings in a year’s time.

The initiatives come as part of the umbrella body’s Leadership 20:20 programme, which aims to explore issues affecting progression in the sector and to come up with ways of supporting emerging leaders.

Former chief executive of Student Volunteering England and chair of the Leadership 20:20 programme Graham Allcott said: “It’s imperative that we help our up and coming leaders develop their talent and managerial skills.

“After all, these will be the people running our organisations in 10 or 20 years’ time.

“The ‘curry clubs’ are a fun and informal way of beginning this process.”

Planned dates for the curry club meetings are:

  • Wednesday 24th February, London
  • Wednesday 24th February, South East
  • Thursday 25th February, East
  • Tuesday 2nd March, West Midlands
  • Wednesday 3rd March, East Midlands
  • Thursday 4th March, South West
  • Thursday 4th March, North West
  • Monday 8th March, Yorkshire and the Humber
  • Thursday 25 March, North East

I am willing to host an event in Kent and have a suitable "curry House" venue who have supported many of the small Kent charities
