NCVO calls for sector spending to remain 'neutral'

The news that Sir Graham Melmoth will stand down as chair of NCVO in November leaves an exciting opportunity for sector individuals who covet an important and high-profile role such as this.
There will surely be no shortage of takers, but with the job description calling for “an outstanding communicator with superlative networking and diplomacy skills”, one individual with a knack for getting the sector talking clearly fits the bill.
In his blog last week, with tongue perhaps in cheek, Acevo chief Stephen Bubb (pictured left) wrote: “And finally, I see NCVO are advertising for a new chair, someone with superb communication skills...I wonder...”
The prospect of the two “leaders of the sector”, Bubb and NCVO chief executive Stuart Etherington, joining forces for the common good is a mouth-watering one.
And we’re sure Etherington has already let his trustees know of his enthusiasm for the idea.
Of course, the position is a voluntary one, but as Acevo has assured us that it doesn't believe all trustees should be paid, only that charities should have the option of paying them, no doubt Bubb would be happy to take on the role without remuneration, should he apply.

I would only take a post like this if I was paid. You can't be seen to be a true quango-whore/chair-tart if you take things on for the love of the role. And 1 day a week? Do you think I'm made of time? Mind you, it wouldn't have to be cash - could be croissants or LIDL vouchers.
