Governance | Vibeka Mair | 4 Jan 2010

PF Awards winner Erich Reich has received a knighthood for charitable services in the 2010 New Year Honours list.

Reich (pictured), who is chairman of the Kindertransport Group of the Association of Jewish Refugees, received the Outstanding contribution to fundraising award in the 2009 PF Awards organised by Civil Society Media.

PF recognised his unique fundraising firm Classic Tours which has raised around £50m for charity over the past 17 years.

Other civil society notables knighted in the New Year Honours included Clare Tickell, chief executive of Action for Children, who was made a dame, and Graham Wynne, leader of RSPB, who was given a knighthood.

David Henry, chair of mental health charity Mind, received a CBE for services to healthcare; Imelda Redmond, chief executive of Carers UK, also got a CBE for services to disadvantaged people, as did Helen Dent, chief executive of Family Action, who was recognised for her services to children and families.

Recipients of the OBE included Frances Crook, director of the Howard League for Penal Reform for her services to youth justice; Mary Craig, chief executive of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland; John Kingston, founding director of CAF Venturesome, for services to the voluntary sector; Nigel Kershaw, chief executive of Big Issue Invest, for services to social enterprises and Jeanne Kaniuk, head of adoption services at the Coram Foundation, for services to children.
