The four Scottish independent schools which failed the public benefit test last year have been told by OSCR that their proposals for change will be sufficient to meet the requirement.
Lomond School in Helensburgh, St Leonards School in St Andrews, Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh and Hutcheson’s Educational Trust in Glasgow were told to produce plans on how they proposed to widen access and address fee levels.
OSCR has now said that they have all met its requirements, and will monitor their progress in implementing them, before a final decision in 2011.
Six other charities were told they must amend their constitutions, all of whom have successfully done so.
“This is an important stage in the process,” said OSCR chief executive Jane Ryder (pictured). “In the case of the schools, they have met our requirements to date and it remains with them to implement their plans in order to meet the final stage of the directions issued.”
OSCR has also announced that in the coming weeks it will produce a summary report setting out its approach and the key factors supporting its decisions.
