Ann Frye, one of the country's leading authorities on mobility and inclusion, has been appointed chair of the board of trustees of Mobility Choice, the charity that organises the Mobility Roadshow.
Frye succeeds Sir Patrick Brown who has stepped down after ten years as chair since the charity's inception in 1998.
"I am delighted to have been invited to chair the board of Mobility Choice," said Frye, who has been actively involved in promoting the mobility of disabled people for nearly 30 years.
"I am as passionate now as I was at the beginning, about improving the quality and range of vehicles and mobility equipment that is available, and giving people the information they need to make choices. That is why I organised the first Mobility Roadshow in 1983," she added.
"But while there have been enormous improvements since those early days, the growing numbers of disabled and older people for whom the Mobility Roadshow is an essential annual event, highlights the continuing need to provide a comprehensive 'hands on' showcase of mobility solutions."
Jan Gethings, executive director of Mobility Choice, welcomed the appointment. "Ann Frye brings invaluable expertise and experience from her previous years as head of the Mobility & Inclusion Unit at the Department for Transport and in representations with the European Commission, the European Science Foundation and other relevant organisations.
"Ann has been an extremely supportive trustee and we look forward to working more closely with her to move the charity and Roadshow forward."
