The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has advertised for three new board members for the Charity Commission, in what appears to be an expansion of the regulator’s board.
Two board members are due to complete their terms at the end of December and none of the other board members are due to complete their terms until November 2019.
It is looking to recruit one board member “who knows about conditions in Wales” and one who is legally qualified. One person can fulfil both roles.
Eryl Besse, currently deputy chair and the Commission’s Welsh representative, and Tony Leifer are due to stand down in December. Both are legally qualified.
The law states that two board members must be legally qualified, one must have knowledge of Wales and the board must include understanding of the charity sector.
The deadline for application is 19 July and final interviews are expected to be held on 6 September 2018.
The appointments panel is chaired by Debbie Asbury from DCMS and includes Baroness Tina Stowell, who became chair of the Commission at the beginning of this year, and Howell James as an independent member.
Current board members
Laurie Benson, Paul Martin and Catherine Quinn joined the board in November 2016 and are due to complete their terms in November 2019.
Kenneth Dibble, who was formerly the Commission’s director of legal services, joined the board in March and is due to complete his term in March 2021.
Mike Ashley, who is the Commission’s accountancy expert, had his term extended to November 2020.
