Chief executive, Womankind Worldwide from September 2012 to August 2013
Jackie Ballard has been appointed CEO of Womankind Worldwide, a post she took up in September 2012. In June 2013, however, she announced she would leave the organisation after deciding she preferred roles where she had more direct contact with beneficiaries.
She joined Womankind from Action on Hearing Loss, where she was CEO for five years. The disability charity, then called RNID, appointed Ballard as its chief executive in July 2007 after she had spent five years at the helm of the RSPCA.
She had previously been a Liberal Democrat MP for Taunton, a county and district councillor for Somerset, and a further education lecturer and adult basic education organiser.
Ballard has a BSc in social psychology from London School of Economics and spent one year studying in Iran.
She is a board member of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA).
