Jonathan Lewis

Jonathan Lewis

Jonathan Lewis is chief executive of the Social Investment Business, the trading name for Futurebuilders England, and the Adventure Capital Fund.

The Social Investment Business delivers the government’s £215m Futurebuilders Fund, which gives out loans and grants to build the capacity of civil society organisations that want to deliver public services.

During 2009 the organisation also won the three-year contract to deliver the Department of Health’s £100m Social Enterprise Unit. It has publicly stated its wish to run the new Social Investment Wholesale Bank should the government decide to set one up, though this ambition has drawn opposition from some quarters who think the Social Investment Business is big enough and powerful enough already.

Lewis was previously director of digital channels on ITV, and a non-executive director of an NHS mental health trust. His business acumen has been seen as asset to the business, whose investment committee is drawn mainly from the commercial sector. In March 2011 he was also appointed as chair of national community charity SOVA.
