Richard Lee, the new director of fundraising at Crisis

National homelessness charity Crisis has announced the appointment of Richard Lee as its new director of fundraising.

Lee joins Crisis from international disaster relief charity ShelterBox, where he has been director of fundraising since January 2016. Prior to working for ShelterBox, Lee was director of development at Young Enterprise UK; head of community fundraising and events at Oxfam and helped raise over £100m in his role as head of community fundraising at Macmillan Cancer Support.

Lee replaces Edward Tait in the role, after it was announced that Tait would be join ActionAid UK as its new director of fundraising in February of this year.

Tait worked at Crisis for 15 years in a number of fundraising roles across supporter appeals, services, legacy and major-donor fundraising. He was appointed director of fundraising at Crisis in 2012.

Jon Sparkes, chief executive of Crisis, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Richard as our new director of fundraising. Richard not only shares Crisis’ values, but has the drive and ambition to take an already successful fundraising team to even greater things.

“I look forward to working with him to further develop our ‘Supporter in the Room’ ethos and our fundraising communications, which do so much to enhance our brand and help show our supporters’ how we can end homelessness for good.”

Lee said: "I can’t wait to work with the talented team at Crisis and to do my bit to put an end to the outrage that is homelessness in the UK. I have always been deeply saddened that people in the UK have their lives destroyed or held back because they have no place to call home. I am already a regular donor to Crisis, so to have the opportunity to directly help put an end to homelessness makes me feel incredibly fortunate."
