Charity sector faces 20 per cent tax on direct mail, HMRC confirms 1

Charities which have “single sourcing” contracts for production and postage of their direct mail will have to pay 20 per cent VAT on those contracts from the start of this month, HM Revenue & Customs has confirmed.

There is an “overwhelming case” for an early review of the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme because most of the charities it was aimed at either do not know about it, cannot understand it, or are not eligible for it, a group of umbrella bodies has said.
