Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme 'too complex to have real impact'

The BBC has refused to release details of the review of its appeals policy and agreement with the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) as its Charity Appeals Advisory Committee begins recruitment for four new members.
Pressed by PF for details on the development of the review and any likely announcements, a BBC spokesperson would only say that both its relationship with the DEC and its policy on appeals were the subject of “ongoing discussions”.
The BBC Trust called on the BBC to review its appeals in March following its refusal to broadcast the DEC Gaza appeal in the early months of this year, which prompted outcry and threats of legal action. The BBC received more than 40,000 complaints and the Trust received 200 formal appeals as a result of the decision not to air the DEC commercial.
But while the BBC is keeping quiet on its policies, the BBC Charity Appeals Advisory Committee is recruiting four new voluntary members. The volunteers will be tasked with advising on policy, strategic development and the organisation’s relationship with a host of appeals, including emergency appeals in addition to events such as Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day.
