Everything Everywhere drops donation fees for good

Everything Everywhere, the mobile telecom giant comprising Orange and T-Mobile, has become the last of the big mobile providers to drop its fees on text donations.

Minister for Civil Society Nick Hurd reported in a tweet this afternoon: “Good meeting with Everything Everywhere. 100 percent pass through of text donations confirmed.”

A spokeswoman for Orange confirmed to civilsociety.co.uk that the dropping of fees will be permanent.

The news, and the minister’s intervention, follows an enthusiastic campaign by the sector, led by the Institute of Fundraising, to have the Everything Everywhere, with 28 million customers the UK’s largest mobile company, join Vodafone, O2 and Virgin in abandoning fees for gifts made to charity via text short codes.

The company responded to this lobbying in mid April by announcing a temporary suspension of fees, but at the time defended its treatment of donations made to charities, saying that the majority of donations made via its networks were done so without charge.
