New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) has cut one fifth of its research team, but denies reports that this is as a result of a drop in donations.
The organisation would not reveal how many staff have been made redundant, but told Charity News Alert that “less than five” positions have gone.
A spokeswoman for NPC said that the cuts are due to a “tilt” in focus at the organisation which is working to become “more lean and focus on the demand – which is at the consultancy side”.
No cuts have been made at other parts of the organisation, indeed NPC is currently recruiting – although it has no immediate plans to boost consultancy staff, despite the renewed emphasis on the area.
The spokeswoman said that for NPC, like other organisations during the recession, “it is important to look carefully at our strategy” and be more flexible.
She added that while some donors and foundations have less money to invest, the organisation has seen a surge in demand for advisory services on individual and family foundation philanthropy strategies.
