The Charity Commission is conducting research into how trusts and foundations have reacted to the recession and the impact this has had on charities that they fund.
The research, due to be published in June, will be carried out by Professor Diana Leat, director of the creative philanthropy programme at Carnegie UK Trust and a co-funder of the Research Centre on Giving and Philanthropy.
It will be part of a series of reports from the Commission that will focus on the economic downturn.
A second report, commissioned by the regulator, will explore whether charity trustees are taking a strategic approach to their charity’s fundraising in light of the recession.
The Charity Commission will also provide charity trustees with a check-list on issues they should address in a recession in the shape of a model board paper.
This paper, which will focus on the needs of smaller charities, will be available on the Commission website.
