The Fundraising Standards Board has been given £110,000 by the Welsh assembly to pay for an employee to be based in Wales as part of the ongoing effort to increase membership of the regulatory body.
It is hoped the three-year grant will boost Welsh membership of the organisation, currently standing at just 35 out of more than 1,000.
The FRSB needs to demonstrate widespread sector support by 2011 or the government could introduce statutory regulation.
FRSB chief executive Alistair McLean (pictured) told Charity News Alert the details of whether or not the new employee will be full-time or part-time, and office or home-based are yet to be finalised, but the organisation is actively recruiting.
As well as four full-time staff in London, the FRSB has a part-time worker in Scotland.
The London-based team has just moved into the former Crime Concern offices on London’s embankment because its original office building a few doors away is due to be demolished.
McLean says the new offices are cheaper than the original headquarters and all the ‘new’ office furniture was bought for £1 from the previous occupants, who have merged with Rainer to become Catch 22.
