Bristol University is launching a £100m fundraising campaign tonight to co-incide with its centenary, although it has already collected £40m.
The university has raised almost half its target over the last five years, and aims to raise the remainder by 2014.
It has earmarked the funding for six areas: social responsibility, culture, medicine and health, student talent, science and technology, and £28m towards “building a university for the future.”
Director of development at the university, Tania Rawlinson (pictured), said the university will continue to build on the fundraising it has already embarked on, which emphasises both regular giving and major gifts.
Three large legacies, worth more than £5m in total, have already been made to the university, with a further £15m pledged.
The university has also secured more than £2m in donations from the Wolfson Foundation and million pound gifts from other philanthropists.
Rawlinson says the university’s annual giving in 2008 increased by almost 20 per cent compared to the previous year.
“Bristol University’s £100m Centenary Campaign is a catalyst for strengthening and embedding fully all aspects of philanthropic fundraising at the University of Bristol,” she said.
