Will Aid 2010 most sucessful year ever

Will Aid’s 2010 campaign has already beaten the previous year’s total by raising almost £1.5m to support nine UK charities.

In November, 1,000 solicitors from across the UK gave their time to write wills for more than 18,000 people in exchange for a donation to Will Aid.

The suggested donations were £75 for a single will, £110 for a mirror will and £40 for a codicil to amend a will with the money raised being divided between ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, Age UK, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF in Scotland and Trócaire in Northern Ireland.

Iain McAndrew, head of legacies at Save the Children and chair of Will Aid, said, “It is a real achievement to have raised this enormous sum in just a few weeks. The participating charities are really grateful for the life saving work this makes possible.”

Since the charity formed in 1988 it has raised more than £8m in donations and already plans to run the campaign again in November 2011.
