Fundraising salaries up 2.8 per cent

Salaries for fundraising jobs in London rose by an average 2.8 per cent last year, with the highest increases in trust manager and events manager positions, according to new figures.

A survey of more than 500 fundraising vacancies across 169 charities in 2008 revealed slightly higher-than-average wage increases across manager levels, and showed corporate fundraising salaries plateauing.

The survey, based on vacancies registered with fundraising recruitment specialists the Kage Partnership, revealed that the average salary for a junior fundraiser in 2008 was £20,000, and for a director of fundraising in a small or medium-sized organisation was between £30,000 and £60,000.

Major donor fundraising managers could expect £37,500 on average, and events fundraising managers were paid between £27,000 and £44,000.

Staff at the Kage Partnership say there are skills shortages in some areas, particularly direct marketing and major donor fundraising, and more commercial sector candidates are wanting to move into the not-for-profit sector.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the wider economic situation, the survey also showed that more people are applying for fewer roles.
