Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme 'too complex to have real impact'

Remember a Charity will slash its membership fees by 15 per cent in a bid to drive up membership as it prepares to embark on a new-look campaign.
Stephen George (pictured), chair of Remember a Charity, said that the organisation was satisfied that it has “an enormous amount of clout” with its current membership base of 150 organisations, but that the fee re-structure is designed to boost member numbers as the organisation gears up to roll out a humour-led campaign next year.
“We think we’ve got a good product and we think we’ve got a good fee for it and we would hope we can increase our membership as a result of that,” he said.
The current financial crisis helped move forward the argument for an across-the-board cut, rather than changes that would see some organisations pay more as others had their fees reduced.
“We’d committed some time ago to thinking about what the fee structure would be, we had had feedback that there are some charities that wanted to join and, for some of them, the fee was too much,” George said.
The fee reduction will be applied to all current members as well as new sign-ups and will be fixed for the next two years.
