The chief executive of Britain’s tourism promotion board has been appointed as the head of the new charity formed out of the merger of Age Concern England and Help the Aged.
Tom Wright CBE (pictured) will take up the position of chief executive at the charity in January next year, moving on from his current post at the helm of VisitBritain. Wright will oversee an annual turnover of £150m and over 2,000 staff at the new charity.
Wright will join an organisation undergoing a logistical and branding overhaul. As he enters his new post he will oversee the amalgamation of the two charities across the entire UK, including a rebranding and the development of new internal structures, while maintaining services to the elderly.
“The challenges that face us are immense: the new charity will have to grapple with enormous social change as societies age worldwide,” he said.
“I want to help fashion an organisation that will have the influence to create change, to deliver flagship services that address the challenges of growing older both in the UK and across the world, and which puts older people at the heart of everything we do.”
