Economic downturn survey closing date nears

Fundraising | Celina Ribeiro | 5 Nov 2008

Charities are encouraged to have their say on how the economic downturn may impact on their activities as the closing date for a major sector survey closes in.

Submissions to the PricewaterhouseCoopers survey, conducted for the Institute of Fundraising and Charity Finance Directors Group (CFDG), close next Wednesday, 5 November.

The survey, which asks charities to predict how the current economic instability and possible recession will impact on them, will be analysed by the accountants and form the basis of research which, it is hoped, will help organisations develop better strategies to weather the financial storm.

Lindsay Boswell (pictured), chief executive of the Institute, headed calls for charities to participate in the survey.

“If you haven’t already taken part in this survey, please do make this a priority over the next week. It is very important that there is as much input as possible into this piece of research work,” he said.

“There is no doubt that the credit crunch will have an impact on voluntary income. It is now extremely important for fundraisers to be as informed as possible about the current economic climate and its implications, so as to ensure viable ongoing plans.”

CFDG chief executive, Keith Hickey, also emphasised the importance of the survey to charities. “This definitive survey and the report resulting from it will give charities a valuable insight into the current environment and assist them in their planning processes,” he said.

No date for the survey’s release has yet been announced, but while the survey results will be widely available, the report itself will be distributed exclusively to CDFG and Institute members.
