Everyclick is to launch an online Christmas card tool that allows the sender to either make a donation to charity themselves on behalf of the recipient or let the recipient choose which charity benefits.
The ‘Considerate Christmas’ application lets individuals or companies send a personalised online greeting to friends, family or clients, complete with a charity donation.
But instead of selecting which charity gets the cash, the sender can, if they wish, let the recipient choose their own charity.
Everyclick founder Polly Gowers said the idea combined the concepts of Christmas gift catalogues, charity gift vouchers and online Christmas cards.
“Up until now people have been able to ‘send a goat’ instead of giving presents. But the person receiving the gift might not have chosen to give that charity a goat. This way, they can choose their own charity to support.”
Gowers added that the tool was much better value for charities than traditional paper cards. Although the charity Christmas card market is worth more than £114m a year, the average cut going to charity is just 10 per cent, and can be as low as 4 per cent. Everyclick will charge its standard fee of 4.8 per cent per donation.
Donors can sign up to the scheme now by making a pledge and choosing a date to send the cards on, at www.everyclick.com/christmas. Everyclick will contact pledgers on their chosen date to remind them to send the cards.
Everyclick has set a target of raising £10m for charities through the scheme this year.
