Trinity Hospice raises £126,000 in 2010 Snow Ball

Trinity Hospice has succeeded in raising £126,000 at its 2010 Snow Ball - an increase of almost £30,000 since the last event.

The funds will go towards the “Trinity at Home” team of specialist nurses, which each year make over 3,500 home visits.

The charity’s last Snow Ball was held in 2007 and raised £100,000.

Anne Hooper, chief executive of Trinity Hospice said of this year's event: “Thanks to the generosity of our guests and the talents of our well known charity auctioneer Nick Stewart, the evening raised a staggering amount which will help Trinity’s patients to lead the most normal life possible, in the comfort of their own homes”.

On-the-night donations at the 2010 Snow Ball raised £60,000 while the remaining £66,000 was raised through a live, and a silent auction.

One of the most popular items in the live auction was the first jar of honey made by Trinity hospice since it introduced hives this year, going for £500.

As well as a magician and a mind-reader, guests were treated to an automated polar bear named Bjorn (pictured), who greeted guests.

Fundraising director Fran Ward acknowledged the difficulties charities face in the current circumstances: “As with many UK charities Trinity has felt the impact of the current economic climate, but we are fortunate to have some very loyal supporters.

"We are constantly aiming to create new fundraising events which the community and our local businesses can take part in”.
