Book Aid International has set out on its first ever foray into online auction fundraising as it tests the waters for future money making ventures.
eBay will host the auction of 30 books, each inscribed by a different famous person – from Dame Helen Mirren and Sir Richard Branson to Boris Johnson – and nine illustrations in an effort which they hope will raise £2,000 earmarked for their activities in sub-Saharan Africa.
The effort combines both fundraising and advocacy for the power of the written word as the books are selected by the celebrities due to the profound and personal impact they have had on their lives and careers.
Following the launch of a new fundraising and campaigning strategy last month, Book Aid International told Professional Fundraising that they will look to developing more online fundraising initiatives in an effort to both increase revenue and profile.
If successful, the literacy charity will be repeating the auction again next year.
