Charities collaborate on microdonation scheme 2

Fundraising | Celina Ribeiro | 19 Nov 2010

Four large charities have joined together to launch Give Change Make Change, a fundraising scheme which will see online shoppers donate extra pennies to their causes.

Cancer Research UK, WWF, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and the British Red Cross have developed Give Change Make Change, a mechanism which will give internet shoppers the option to round up their bill with the extra cash sent back to the four charities.

The launch of the scheme this week follows on from the announcement of a similar style mechanism of debit card donations launched at real-world checkouts, including that of Dominos, earlier this month.

Give Change Make Change has already secured one corporate partner, The Hut Group, which owns a number of retailers including Zavvi.com.

Director of corporate relationships at WWF Patrick Laine said “Give Change Make Change aims to create a new income stream for the charity sector. We recognise this as an opportunity to offer an additional method of giving that is commitment-free, allowing consumers to donate just a small amount, as and when they can afford to do so.

“The ambition for Give Change Make Change is that lots of people donate their spare change, creating big change for the causes they support.”

Another charity looks set to launch its own online fundraising product, with Graeme Manuel, digital media manager at Diabetes UK, telling yesterday’s Digital Fundraising Conference that the charity is considering licensing its successful Challenge fundraising platform. The announcement was met with quite significant interest, particularly by delegates from smaller charities.

Great to see a significant move into online fundraising by four of the larger charities. We know there's an income stream there as we've already raised over £150,000 in cash donations through a online shopping for over 3000+ Uk schools and charities...and it has not personally cost any of our 1000's of Givers a penny to give to their chosen causes. We hope this new initiative does well as it will encourage some of the other 160,000+ Uk charities to get engaged in online fundraising. Come on in.

Dear Mark
Please show me how to do what you do. I am desperate to learn and we are in need of funds.
