The Department for International Development is seeking industry feedback for a proposed results-focused poverty alleviation fund.
Civil society organisations are requested to offer feedback on the new Poverty Impact Fund, which will be worth £40m in its first year, in a consultation which was opened up late last week. The consultation period will run until 22 September and the fund is due to be up and running by the end of the year.
Continuing on the Coalition’s invigorated emphasis on impact, Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell said the “results-focused” fund will be designed to “help support poverty-fighting groups deliver against the Millennium Development Goals”.
The proposed fund will comprise of two grant types. The first, the innovation grant, is targeted to small UK-based organisations with an annual turnover of less than £500,000 which are developing innovative poverty-reduction programmes. The Impact grant, meanwhile, will be available to larger organisations based either in the UK or in a country in which DfID has offices which work on large-scale poverty reduction.
