Video showcase website See the Difference goes live 4

Fundraising | Gareth Jones | 15 Jun 2010

See the Difference, the video-based website aiming to showcase the work of UK charities, has launched.

With the heavyweight backing of 25 corporate partners such as Accenture, McCann Erickson and Microsoft, the site allows users to view charities projects at home and abroad, and find out where their money is going.

Users can also donate to projects of their choosing thanks to a linkup with Virgin Money Giving.

More than 100 charities are now signed up to contribute videos to the site, which is itself a registered charity and was originally scheduled to launch last winter.

The site has won the backing of Institute of Fundraising CEO Lindsay Boswell, who said the site “brings charities’ work alive to the laptop and YouTube generation”.

This is very similar to the site MadTube www.madtube.org which has been around for almost 2 years . It highlights charity videos and offers links for donations to those charities.

Thanks PS Siu and Jonathan for the feedback, much appreciated and the armed forces tag has been tweaked.

Jonathan, the great news with See The Difference is that you can explore lots of different ways to make a difference in the world, know exactly where your money is going and receive feedback on the projects you supported, thanks to the pledges that each charity has made.

We're already working on version 1.1 of the site, so we'd love to hear your thoughts at feedback@seethedifference.org

Good idea, visually appealing, and can convey quite an emotional message.

Some early teething problems (I assume) when you're on the site - The two armed forces charities I can find don't appear under the same categories/sub categories, and apparantly one of our well-known screen-actors is quite tight with his readies - the charity he's shown supporting has raised £7.41 so far...I'm sure (?) in reality he's raised £000's etc etc for it, but it just looks faintly ridiculous.

Is See the Difference reinventing the wheel here? Without a massive marketing push its going to be hard to take users away from YouTube, as it doesnt seem to offer too much more.
