The NCVO has announced the creation of a Funding Commission to study future financial provision after 2010 for the whole civil society sector.
Starting work in early 2009, the Commission aims to assess evidence on the state of funding in the sector, respond to concerns and uncertainty about funding over the next ten years and “take responsibility for setting a new funding agenda”.
How much the Commission will cost to set up and run has yet to be determined, but NCVO anticipates that it will operate for one year, culminating in a formal report.
The secretariat for the Commission will be provided by NCVO’s policy team.
The final report will comprise recommendations for the sector to implement and identify issues on which NCVO and its partners should lobby government and other funders.
“The creation of this commission is a very exciting development as it represents the first tangible output from our new civil society agenda,” said Stuart Etherington, chief executive of NCVO (pictured).
“Its job will be to come up with practical and public policy proposals that ensure secure funding for the voluntary sector, for the longer term.”
