Oxfam is collaborating with the A-list to open "Britain's biggest charity pop-up shop" in the famous Selfridges department store in London. For the first week customers will not only be able to purchase items pre-owned by celebrities, but will be served by them as well.
From Friday 14 May to Thursday 20 May Selfridges’ Ultralounge, the London store’s permanent arts and exhibition space, will be transformed into the Oxfam Curiosity Shop, staffed by celebrities from Annie Lennox to Zoe Ball with all proceeds going to Oxfam.
Over 6,000 handpicked vintage and high-end items have been donated, from Livia Firth’s red carpet dresses, to items from Alexa Chung, Annie Lennox, Helen Mirren, Natalie Imbruglia and Corinne Bailey Rae and designer donations from Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney and Roger Vivier.
Clothing, accessories, music, books, homewares and art have all been chosen for the collection curated by an elite team, including Whistles CEO Jane Shepherdson.
Funds raised by the shop will support Oxfam’s women’s projects across the world, designed to "protect, support and empower vulnerable women: campaigning against violence, empowering them to fight HIV and AIDS and offering the poorest girls the chance of education".
Shepherdson said: “More than two-thirds of the world’s poorest people are women, yet they struggle to be heard. We saw an opportunity to bring together influential women with valuable skills and contacts to try and make a difference to their lives.
“The result is the Oxfam Curiosity Shop – a wonderful one-off experience for shoppers and fashion-lovers, which will also raise funds for vital women’s projects and help give them a voice.”
Annie Lennox will open the shop with an exclusive evening event and a live performance to a select 250 paying guests.
