Minister emails 10,000 volunteer fundraisers

Fundraising | Celina Ribeiro | 18 Jun 2008

Minister for the third sector Phil Hope has today emailed 10,000 fundraisers, volunteer managers and corporate social responsibility professionals to get them logging on to a new support website.

How2fundraise.org, produced by the Institute of Fundraising and funded by the Office of the Third Sector in collaboration with the Vodafone UK Foundation, aims to both inspire and inform volunteers.

Volunteer fundraisers will be able to go online and find information about the latest fundraising practices across the sector for free. How2fundraise.org aims to inspire volunteer fundraisers to think creatively about their role, and to feel part of an important and supported community.

“We hope we’ve created just the place for volunteers to share their secrets of success,” said Sarah Shillito, head of the Vodafone UK Foundation. “The professionals are not exclusively the experts when it comes to this area of fundraising.”

Also offering co-branding opportunities for Institute organisational members, How2fundraise.org (pictured) hopes to increase the overall amount of money available to good causes as well as the ability of fundraisers to attract it.

BBC Children in Need and Marie Curie Cancer Care have agreed to be launch partners for the site.

The website should expect a large audience. The 1997 National Survey of Volunteering estimated that of the 22 million people volunteering for third sector organisations, around two-thirds donated their time as volunteer fundraisers.
