Free online donation facility for all charities 1

Fundraising | Becky Slack | 6 Jun 2008

More than 200 charities have benefited from a new everyclick facility which the search engine claims allows every UK charity to accept donations online, for free.

The donations were made in a 24-hour period after everyclick announced the new service to its existing users.

Donors can look for charities to give to via the search engine and make a donation using a credit or debit card. There is no cost to the charities to receive donations.

“We are excited at the potential this has to make a difference to smaller charities that do not have an online donation facility in place or perhaps even a website,” said Polly Gowers, founder of everyclick (pictured).

Charities will be provided with pre-configured promotional tools and should guide supporters to the everyclick homepage where they can opt to ‘donate now’. Everyclick has worked with Charities Trust to create the facilities.

Free? I don't think so. Charities Trust clearly state on their website that they make a charge of 4 per cent for this service. That's in line with commercial providers and hardly free.

I would suggest you have swallowed the spin sent out by everyclick. Their own site is misleading, although truthful. It states
"100% of your donation through Everyclick goes to charity. Donations made through Everyclick are processed in real time by our payment partner Charities Trust (Charity Reg No 327489)"

As donor, that would suggest all of my donation goes to the recipient I choose. Whereas the Charities Trust website clearly shows a 4% charge goes to them. Everyclick have spun this dreadfully.

For donations made online we charge 4% of the total gift (including Gift Aid if applicable).
