Drug deals, prostitution and street fundraising - oh my!

Face-to-face fundraising is not the most popular of fundraising forms, it has to be said. But a community in Norfolk has lumped poor old street fundraisers with public urination and prostitution as local public nuisance.

The Norwich City Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team last week released its new priorities for making Norwich an altogether lovelier place to be for the good people of the city.

Having reduced the level of prostitution in the town, the neighbourhood team panel has released a two-point list of priorities.

One: “Drug use, prostitution and anti-social behaviour including dog fouling and human urination” within the town.

Two: “To establish the public’s view of street fundraisers, pedlars and beggars and the extent of their concerns.”

Civil Society understands that the PFRA has been in touch with the townsfolk to inform them that street fundraising is a legal and regulated activity – unlike dog fouling, human urination (one would assume the neighbourhood team is against only public human urination, and not that done in private) and ye olde world ‘peddling’.

Life, it would seem, is indeed tough on the mean streets of Norwich.
