Gowers steps down from helm of everyclick 1

Fundraising | Becky Slack | 23 Apr 2008

Polly Gowers, founder and chief executive of charity search engine everyclick, is to step down from her role at the head of the organisation.

She is to be replaced by Mark Nall, who joined as chief operating officer six months ago.

The changes are intended to allow Gowers (pictured) more time to focus on forward planning, strategy and product development.

“My vision was and still is to make it easier for charities to raise money online,” says Gowers. “We’ve proved it can work by raising £425,000 via our search engine so far. But there is still much more that can be done.

“We want to extend the giving services we have on offer to the sector. We have found someone in Mark that can step up to the role of running the every day operation and give us the freedom to develop these new services.”

Chairman replaced by major backer

Gowers is not the only staff member stepping down. Paul Hitchcock, who has chaired everyclick since its launch in 2006, is to be replaced by Sandy Loder from investment bank Fleming Family & Partners, a major investor in everyclick.

“Flemings have been hugely supportive,” said Gower. “These changes are a function of the company getting bigger.”

It is refreshing to learn that Polly Gowers, despite the huge growth in the company, is sticking to her original concept of helping charities to raise money online. Our charity is benefiting from their search engine.
