The Charity Commission has banned the League Against Cruel Sports from using an advert which highlighted the letters “Cruel Tory” in its slogan, deeming it too political.
The League Against Cruel Sports has launched a campaign called ‘Keep Cruelty History’ to stop the Fox Hunting Act being repealed.
The campaign includes a website and adverts using the ‘Keep Cruelty History’ slogan which have been featured in the national press.
However, Civil Society has learned that the original proposal for the campaign was not approved by the Charity Commission as it was deemed too political.
A League Against Cruel Sports spokeswoman told Civil Society that the original campaign included a play on words within the slogan ‘Keep Cruelty History’.
“The colouring of the slogan focused on certain letters which spelt out and highlighted 'Cruel Tory',” she said. “But this was deemed too political by the Charity Commission.”
The new campaign still features the slogan ‘Keep Cruelty History’ but all letters are now the same colour (pictured).
A Charity Commission spokeswoman confirmed it had been in talks with the League Against Cruel Sports and would publish a case study on the matter for the sector later this year.

David Cameron is a TORY. David Cameron intends to try and bring back the CRUELTIES of hunting with a free vote in the House of Commons should he be elected. The Act Cameron wishes to overturn still allows hunting with hounds i.e. drag or trail hunting; the only thing banned is the cruelty factor of seeing foxes killed by hounds, hares torn apart from dogs, deer chased for 20 miles or more until they damage their lungs or they give up with exhaustion. THIS IS WHAT DAVID CAMERON WISHES TO RE-INTRODUCE.
For the second time the EU has turned down an appeal by The Countryside Alliance and cronies who state the Hunting Act denies their Human Rights. On their last attempt a UNANIMOUS decision by the EU Committee pointed out that (a) The Hunting Act still allowed them to ride to hounds (b) chasing a wild animal in the name of sport is unacceptable.
