Christmas appeal round-up

Fundraising | Celina Ribeiro | 20 Nov 2009

Charities are kicking off their all-important Christmas campaigns en masse, three charities have this week announced their Christmas campaigns.

The RSPCA will be emphasising the potentially increased demand on their services in their multi-media push, which will cover television, online and warm and cold mailing campaigns. The ‘Big Christmas Feed’ campaign will centre on the cost of feeding the animals in RSPCA rescue centres.

The animal charity’s cold direct mail will be sent out to 75,000 donors on Monday 23 November, while 300,000 warm supporters have started receiving their packs in mid-November. The 90-second TV commercial is due for airing  in early December.

Veteran care charity St Dunstan’s is also embarking on a major direct mail campaign this season, with a pack focussed on the wife of a soldier injured in Afghanistan and a card made by the couple’s two-year-old son. The charity will be sending out the packs to 75,000 warms supporters and more than twice as many cold.

Meanwhile, UCAN has opted for a less paper-intensive Christmas appeal campaign. The urological cancercharity is setting up posters in workplaces across , encouraging employees to use the posters to write Christmas messages to colleagues instead of sending cards, and donate the money saved to UCAN.

Check Civil Society Fundraising next Friday for another round-up of new Christmas campaigns.
